The section dedicated to Riccardo Ricas (Colico, Como, 1912 – Genoa, 1999) pays homage to the artist’s tireless creativity and commitment, who was bound to Giulio Bargellini by strong friendship and esteem.
Outstanding personality, painter, graphic artist, advertiser, theater director and journalist, Ricas understood with enthusiasm and pioneer spirit the renewal of Italian culture and society of the Twentieth century. Among the several significant activities, it’s important to remember the establishment of the Graphic studio R+M with Bruno Munari and the creation of the formula of the program Carosello, a milestone in television advertising in Italy.
His willingness to bring new ideas was also expressed in membership activities, such as Governor of Rotary or President of Italian Touring Club, but also in his attention to applied art, demonstrating his desire to bring together art and life.
His painting production, carried out with coherence through the decades, was inspired first by Futurism and then by Surrealism and Metaphysics, opening up to different influences but always keeping a strong relation with an evocative and slightly poetic representation, profusely inventive and visionary.
